about
Some have said that the real work of a true artist is to make beauty out of chaos. This idea could not be better demonstrated through the efforts of Pete Kartsounes during the struggles of the last year. As an award-winning singer-songwriter and full-time musician for over 27 years, Kartsounes faced an unthinkable reality in March of 2020. In the course of a few short days, every show, booking, and festival were cancelled, leaving Kartsounes completely out of work. But this isn’t the story of a man who lost his job, it is the story of a man who found his real one. Instead of touring, Kartsounes buckled down to create in his home studio in Bend, Oregon. Instead of singing in front of crowds, Kartsounes began turning the collective turmoil into treasure through art, lyric and song.
Kartsounes first composed, performed, produced and engineered, solo album Out Here On My Own vol. 1, while in total quarantine. Then, struck by the collective fear, grief and loss during the fires that raged through Oregon littering the air with smoke, Kartsounes again locked himself in his studio. He spent 9 consecutive days with a towel lodged in the crack of the door to create Mindful Muse, his first new age inspired instrumental album intended to bring peaceful mindfulness to the troubled times. Then, amidst daily news reports of a world seemingly so divided, DJ PK and Larry White (two artistic alter-egos) were born. Experimenting with new funky electronic sounds far from his acoustic work, DJ PK released 2 albums to help people loosen up, get groovy, come together and share the love.
Kartsounes is now working on his fourth album release since the pandemic began. The first feature single Crazy Ride comes complete with its own music video and is set for release on June 7, 2021. True to Kartsounes’ story-telling form, Crazy Ride speaks of the shared heartache we experience in this crazy thing called life. With potent lyrics and full orchestra sound, Crazy Ride seeks to bring meaning to our struggles, to find peace in the pain and smile.
